Somewhere Between Best Laid Plans and Something Even Better
The surprising pivot of this newsletter, the new adventure, and the honest ride ahead.
(đ§ Prefer to listen? You can hear the audio version of this article here.)
If youâve ever found yourself smack in the middle of a chapter with no title yet â welcome. Somewhere Between was built for moments just like that.
When I first launched this Substack, it was meant to be a soft place to land between dreams and reinventions â the messy, beautiful in-between spaces we rarely talk about but always find ourselves in.
What I didnât realize was that, even as I was writing about the pause, a new beginning was quietly forming under the surface. (If you missed it, hereâs the one where I met with a psychic and accidentally started building a company again.)
And letâs be honest:
The only real plot twist wouldâve been me joining some big corporation.
Of course Iâm building something again. Just⌠differently this time.
⨠BTW: Iâm trying a new cadence here again â truly âsomewhere betweenâ finding a rhythm for this Substack, LOL. Starting now, Iâll be sharing these stories every other Tuesday, with an audio version following that Thursday.
If youâd rather listen than scroll â or want to hear the heartbeat behind the words â Iâd love for you to tune in. If you're subscribed, youâll get both straight to your inbox, no extra steps needed.
In my 20s, I launched a whisky brand from scratch.
In my 30s, I sold it (twice) and found myself at a crossroads.
Now, in my 40s, Iâm choosing to build a life and business that feels lighter, truer, and more me.
Whatâs even more exciting?
This time around, Iâm bringing you with me.
Over the coming months, I want to pull back the curtain and share the real stories of what it looks like to build again â more strategic, more joyful, and a lot more honest about whatâs actually sustainable.
And yes â youâll see the real contrasts too: how it felt in my scrappy 20s versus how Iâm moving through these same early start-up steps now, in my 40s. Better shoes, new wisdom, same restless spirit.
Starting now, I'll be posting here about twice a month, weaving together honest reflections, funny missteps, small victories, and the messy, beautiful middle of building something new.
Weâll talk about:
Choosing the right business partners (or choosing to go it alone) - next post!
Developing a brand name and voice that communicates your vision
Navigating permitting and licensing (especially for heavily regulated industries)
Early pivots: when to course-correct without shame or fear
And how to stay human through it all
YOU: Have you ever pivoted early â shifting directions when something was already public? Iâm curious: Did you announce it? Or just quietly start showing up in the new way? Drop a note in the comments â I'd love to hear how you handled it.
If something inside you is whispering, âI think Iâm ready,â this might be the permission youâve been waiting for.
This isnât a playbook. Itâs a conversation.
It's the real-time story of building again â somewhere between who I was, who I am, and who I still hope to become, of course side-by-side with building a business again from scratch.
Iâm so glad youâre here.
⨠Follow the fun. Build something beautiful. Trust the not-yet knowing. â¨
đ Know someone navigating their own âsomewhere betweenâ?
Send them this post. Good things (and good people) grow faster when theyâre shared.
The more, the merrier. đŹ
I pivoted with my business model from whisky enthusiast to full time artist and name shift in the middle of extending my trademark. I cannot say why, I just knew it was time to let go and own how I present to the world honestly and fully.
